ABOUT

Mud Mesa was an artist-run ceramic studio in Taos, New Mexico that supported mid-career artists and ceramic students through residencies and workshops. Mud Mesa was a certified 501 (c)(3) non-profit. The Price Artist in Residence program offers two mid-career artists a 6-week residency at Mud Mesa, the former home and studio of Ken Price. PAiR encourages artists to explore, experiment and expand their relationship to clay and making. Maggie was the organization's Executive Director and founded the project with the Ken Price Family.

The Price Artist-in-Residence (PAiR) program provides ceramic artists the opportunity for an inspirational environment to unplug from the daily routines of their studio and be inspired to explore new boundaries of their work.

PAiR is open to mid-career artists working in the ceramic field. Each 6-week session encourages the artist to find inspiration in the solitude of the landscape and experiment with new ideas and techniques. Ken Price wrote “it is about process not product” in one of his teaching journals, here at Mud Mesa we have taken that sentiment to be the ethos of the Price Artist-in-Residence program. The artist will receive a $1,500 stipend at the start of their session. The artist will live and work in the Price home and studio that was designed by Ken and Happy Price. The artist is responsible for their own travel expenses. Meals are not provided, the artist is responsible for their own food and will have access to a shared kitchen. The artist should bring all the necessary tools and materials they require for their residency. The studio is available 24 hours a day for the exclusive use of the resident.
